LTE (4G) steht für Long Term Evolution und ist der Nachfolger des aktuell noch bekannteren UMTS (3G). Gegenüber UMTS erreicht LTE deutlich höhere Geschwindigkeiten und wurde zunächst als Ersatztechnik in Regionen gebracht, in denen kein DSL-Zugang zum Internet verfügbar war. Im nächsten Schritt spielt LTE Internet auch für den Mobilfunkbereich eine größere Rolle, nachdem die passenden Endgeräte nach und nach erscheinen.
